Tolchards Ltd, Torquay

About This Project

In 2018, Tolchards purchased the former Carlsberg site on the Woodlands Industrial Estate in Torquay. The business was looking to move to larger premises due to outgrowing their existing site in Newton Abbot. The site was in need of some alterations and refurbishment to ensure the building met their current needs and suit the smooth running of the business. The works had to be completed within a 12week schedule, enabling a smooth transition to move prior to the busy summer trading months.

We were tasked with a number of jobs on this project, the first of which were for the office areas. This included the full rewire of the first floor office areas, staff canteen, second floor board room and wine tasting room. We were required to design, specify and install the lighting and power requirements throughout, taking into full consideration what the client needed from the space, from the layouts to the intended uses of the new rooms. The installation of a full, new data network was necessary for this site. We installed network cabling and cabinets ready for specialists to configure so that the networking equipment was prepared for the switch over. This included CAT6 Network cabling to workstations, Wifi access points and Fibre Links between a number of cabinets around the site.

Security and CCTV is a priority for this site, ensuring the site is continuously secure. We designed and installed a security system that met the client’s specific needs, installing an intruder alarm system and CCTV system throughout the entire site. In addition, a new fire detection and alarm system was introduced, replacing an existing system that was in poor condition and not compliant with current standards. Once fully rewired and replaced, the new system became fully compliant.

The roof to the main warehouse was initially in disrepair, leaking severely and was subsequently replaced. Due to this, we were required to remove the lighting installation throughout to enable the roof works to go ahead. Once the new roof had been installed, we designed a new LED lighting solution for the proposed racking layout. With no windows to provide natural light, the new LED solution was designed to keep running costs to a minimum despite operating 24 hours a day.
